December 8th, 2021
Skunkape Games
An adventure game that makes you laugh: Explore unexpected places, chat with eccentric characters, and tease out brain-tickling puzzles in an interactive story that has a joke hiding behind every hotspot.
Beautifully remastered: Lighting, lip-sync, cinematography, audio, music, and more have been updated and enhanced to bring Sam & Max’s second episodic season up to modern standards.
No walkthrough required: The game detects when you’re stuck and provides subtle contextual hints. Hint frequency can be customized to accommodate all playing styles.
Optional driving mini-games: Take the wheel of Sam & Max’s 1960 DeSoto convertible for fun diversions from the story. The hood decals and car upgrades you win carry over across episodes.
Localization: English voice with subtitles in English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish.
In a newly remastered version of their second episodic season, the Freelance Police are back on the case. Zombies are going to dance. Mariachis will perform. The streets will be demolished by a massive war robot. When their friends’ lives are on the line, Sam and Max will put their lives on the line to make things right.
Telltale’s second season of episodic Sam & Max games has been meticulously updated by a small team of original developers, resulting in Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space. Sam is a six-foot canine investigator with a keen sense of right and wrong. Max is a ferocious rabbit with a taste for mayhem. They’re the Freelance Police, an irreverent comedic duo whose unique crime-fighting technique has enthralled comic book and video game enthusiasts for almost three decades. Sam and Max are back on the crime beat in this five-episode compilation of interconnected crimes, including a clash with Santa Claus, a race to contain a massive volcano and a confrontation with a Eurotrash vampire. Then things get weirder.
We suppose it’s only fair to compare the second season remaster to the first season remaster. And we have to say, it makes us feel even better. DeSoto mini-game progress is now improved (decals progress is kept properly, and you don’t require to play episodes in order), and the advancement checklist is also quite useful. We think Bosco’s VA has improved since the first season. We don’t believe it’s because we’ve grown accustomed to his new voice. Also, we believe Oogie Banks is a perfect fit for the part of Bosco – the year off between games did wonder for him, and the new soundtrack is fantastic. Several places have been updated with new designs and lighting. In the zombie factory and on the streets at night, the new lighting is extremely appealing. There are pleasant references for true S&M enthusiasts strewn about the place. What’s more, guess what? The Nipple keyring has returned. We think nothing else was eliminated because the most obscene (and so humorous) original jokes were not cut (as promised by Skunkape devs). Don’t worry, you’ll hear all of the original compositions as well. We didn’t realize that at first, but we’re delighted they included a skip button for the closing credits so you can view the original post-credits scenes. We also owe Skunkape Games a debt of gratitude for allowing us to beta test the game and report several issues and abnormalities. Regarding the storyline, we understand that the kitchen-sink approach to some episodes may not be to everyone’s taste, but we’re having a blast and can’t wait to revisit more Sam & Max remasters in the future.
Is Bosco, the paranoid shopkeeper, correct in his claims of a grand conspiracy? Is Stinky, the owner of a cafe, concealing the truth about what happened to her grandfather (who was also named Stinky)? Will Sybil Pandemik, the snobby neighbor, ever discover true love? Is it true that someone said… BIRTHDAY?! Take a ride in the DeSoto for a hilarious adventure that won IGN’s Adventure Game of the Year award the first time around and now looks and sounds better than ever with gorgeous HD graphics, overhauled lighting and lip-sync, fine-tuned cinematography, remastered audio, and eight all-new musical tracks featuring live jazz musicians.
