PVR NSE 0.19 percent, India’s largest cinema exhibitor, and leading esports outfit NODWIN Gaming have formed a first-of-its-kind collaboration in the country, with PVR screening esports competitions, live in its theatres.
The first in-cinema esports competition will be hosted in four cities – Gurgaon, Indore, Hyderabad, and Mumbai – where local teams will fight in Krafton’s popular game ‘Battlegrounds Mobile India’ (BGMI), with the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and finals being screened on a huge screen. In the future, both PVR and NODWIN plan to add more cities and games from various genres.
“As a test, we’ll show the tournament at one theatre in each of the four cities.” “We’ll collect more expertise, and the next stage will be to create a pan-India competition and broadcast them throughout the cities where we have a presence,” PVR’s Chief of Strategy, Kamal Gianchandani, told ET. “PVR has always been a thought leader in the cinema market, and we’ve always been first to accomplish things, and this is another means of widening our client base, giving them additional opportunities to engage with us and enjoy the PVR experience.”
The two firms announced that gamers and gaming enthusiasts from throughout the country will be able to compete in online esports cups and in-cinema events with unique prize pools for each city. They believe that by combining the attractiveness of esports gaming with the large screen experience, this project will accelerate the already increasing esports entertainment trajectory in India. The matches will be live-streamed on multiple digital channels, including NODWIN’s Facebook and Youtube accounts, as well as PVR’s website and mobile app, in addition, to selecting PVR Cinemas.
“As a construct, our coming together is something worth attempting,” said Akshat Rathee, MD and co-founder of NODWIN Gaming. “PVR has infrastructure and distribution capabilities, and as a construct, our coming together is something worth trying.” “We believe that grassroots development is critical and that professional esports penetration at the municipal level leads to solid exposure for the grassroots ecosystem.” Our partnership with PVR Cinemas pave the way for esports to become more mainstream and integrated into the entertainment industry.”
The competition will take place on October 7th in Gurgaon, October 14th in Indore, and October 21st in Hyderabad. The date of the Mumbai competition will be announced later because Maharashtra is permitting theatres to operate after October 22nd.
