After having found massive success with mobile free-to-play Match 3 games such as Gardenscapes and Fishdom and simulation games like Township, it is time for the mighty Playrix to get into hidden objects! Manor Matters introduces you to Carl, as he recently inherits a mysterious mansion named Castlewood from his grandparent. Can you help Carl unravel the many secrets of the abandoned mansion?
In Playrix’s signature style, Manor Matters is as driven by its storyline as its gameplay. Luckily, the storyline here is captivating and entertaining. While the game is definitely suitable for all ages, the thick layer of suspense and hints of paranormal elements in Manor Matters help make the game an even more intriguing play. As you restore and decorate the old manor, you will also discover details and stories that link back to the rich history of the place. These are fun and well-written and feel integral to the game, not just some side tasks that are a chore to complete.
As for the main hidden object gameplay, it is certainly well-crafted. Unlike most hidden object games for mobile, Manor Matters does not let you choose which scene to explore. Instead, the game progresses level by level and assigns you a specific scene to explore. If you fail the scene, the only option is to replay until it is completed, and given the challenging nature of the game, it is quite common to fail. Compared to popular free-to-play hidden object titles such as Hidden Hotel and Hidden City, Manor Matters is much more challenging. Objects are usually extremely well-hidden, which is a testament to the developer’s creativity as much as it frustrates players.
In this first official release version of Manor Matters, it still lacks a number of side features. For example, social features are limited, only basic event competitions are available, and the low energy limit is disproportionate to the difficulty of the game. Considering the difficulty of the game and how costly the in-game boosters are, the game would also benefit from a daily bonus reward of some sort.
However, one thing that is undeniably great about Manor Matters is its production. This is probably one of the best-looking hidden object games for mobile. The colorful visuals, the flawless animations, and the beautiful musical scores really elevate the game to another level. Each hidden object scene is as thoughtfully and gorgeously designed as the next. This should come as a no surprise given Playrix’s portfolio of stunning games, but who would have thought that hidden object scenes can be this visually engaging.
