The Rangers are back and you are invited along for the ride! In Casual Arts‘ Vacation Adventures: Park Ranger 10, you get to explore the beautiful Pinecreek Hills and Jurassic Springs National Parks as a volunteer. Spot hundreds of animals and find fun souvenirs along the way, while you learn more about renewable energy in this latest family-friendly hidden object extravaganza.
The Vacation Adventures series is extremely popular for a reason, these are those rare feel-good games that let you play at your own pace. This tenth Park Ranger installment maintains the series’ strength. The hidden object scenes all set in gorgeous photorealistic national park landscapes. Objects are often very well-hidden, especially given the highly detailed backdrops. There is also plenty of objects that require an extra interactive step to collect, along with wildlife and recyclable items that are scattered throughout the scenes.
While the general pace of Vacation Adventures: Park Ranger 10 is rather slow, players who prefer more challenges can also opt for harder modes. The game comes with three modes; untimed Casual mode, timed Challenge mode, and no-hints Extreme mode. After each hidden object scene, there is also a puzzle to complete. These puzzles come in a variety of formats, although the majority of them were already introduced in the previous installments. Even the ones that are new to the franchise are based on simple concepts and are easy to learn (not necessarily easy to complete, given the tedious, dragged-on nature of some of them).
To some, it is totally understandable that Vacation Adventures: Park Ranger 10 might feel repetitive. The format of the game has barely changed since the very first Vacation Adventures game. From the hidden objects to the puzzles, everything feels frozen in time, with few new features here and there. The artwork and sound design are pleasant and relaxing in their own rights, but they are also so similar across all the sequel, especially the newer ones, that they are indistinguishable from one another.
This is not exactly a problem that needs to be fixed since the formula still works like a charm, but wouldn’t it be nice to see the next game bringing in something truly new for a change? In my opinion, the Collector’s Edition of Vacation Adventures: Park Ranger 10 is still very well worth purchasing. It comes with extra scenes at the Jurassic Springs National Park, wallpapers, soundtracks, replayable puzzles, and achievements.
Vacation Adventures: Park Ranger 10 will still effectively engage its loyal fans, but casual players might start getting tired of its repetitive format.
