The iconic Emily’s Delicious series returns with its seventeenth installment. Hop on a nostalgic road trip along Route 66 with Emily and the O’Malleys as they discover what truly matters in life. Join various freinds, old and new, on this quest to find some relaxation admist the chaos.
The Delicious series used to be invincible, scoring hit after hit, until recently when the record becomes a little spotty. This does not mean that Delicious: Emily’s Road Trip is not an entertaining game by any means. This seventeenth chapter in Emily’s life still offers plenty of cute and memorable moments through a well-crafted, story-driven Time Management gameplay. The presentation is also just as impressive as the other sequels, featuring gorgeous graphics and wonderful soundtracks.
However, Delicious: Emily’s Road Trip is also everything wrong with many of the recent Gamehouse Original Stories games. The franchise relies heavily on having its players invested in the storyline, so big problems arise when the storyline is not worth investing in. The main issue with Delicious: Emily’s Road Trip’s storyline has to do with its wackily-written characters. Every single character, even familiar faces like Patrick and Francois, apart from Emily is portrayed to be either shallow, narcissistic, or just plain insufferable. With unlikable characters, the game kind of falls apart because the storyline is just not interesting any longer.
It would have been okay if the storyline was the only issue facing Delicious: Emily’s Road Trip, but the gameplay here is also far from perfect. While the main mechanisms that are borrowed from the previous installments are still fun and addicting, the challenging is certainly lacking in this sequel. The game’s 60 levels and 30 of its so-called challenge levels should be a breeze for most Time Management fans to get through unscratched.
Delicious: Emily’s Road Trip provides little to zero incentives to purchase the Collector’s Edition, but if it keeps on with the trend of its predecessors, a standard edition will not be offered in the near future.
Delicious: Emily’s Road Trip disappoints with its unlikable characters and non-challenging gameplay, a rare dud in the series.
