Since the dawn of tine, the Sleeping Guardians have been tasked to protect the five worlds from the destructive power of the Malum, a deadly magical artifact. If one is awaken, the world will descend into chaos. As a member of the prestigious the Order of Guardians, you need to stop one of your colleagues from awakening his own sister, who is a Sleeping Guardian! Join the Guardians in another high-stakes adventure in Reflections of Life: Slipping Hope.
Reflections of Life is one of my personal favorite HOPA series. The series always does a wonderful job incorporating innovative elements with effective storytelling and this latest installment further cements that. On the surface, the main storyline in Reflections of Life: Slipping Hope might not sound very exciting, but the game is packed with rich backstories and fascinating characters that elevate it to new heights. The clever and highly interactive storytelling also makes the game extremely engaging, not a total surprise coming from a series with such great reputation.
While the core gameplay still follows the predictable HOPA formula, the game’s creative flourishes are incredibly satisfying. The adventure part is not the most challenging, but captivating nonetheless. The mechanical owl helper is effectively utilized so that it is not distracting, but adds to the experience. As for the hidden object scenes and the puzzles, the majority of them are of moderate difficulty, but again, blossom with such creativity that is hard to fault.
What must be one of the highlights of Reflections of Life: Slipping Hope is the presentation. Each scene is crafted with a breathtaking level of care and detail – gorgeously drawn and colored. The animations and the cutscenes are some of the best I have seen in a HOPA game, which adds to the intrigue of the game. The music is simply stunning and successfully carries the game through peaks and troughs. Every moment of Reflections of Life: Slipping Hope belongs in an art gallery.
I completed Reflections of Life: Slipping Hope in five hours, including the bonus chapter, without a single minute of boredom. The game is definitely worth the Collector’s Edition purchase and that includes a strategy guide, wallpapers, concept art, soundtracks, videos, repayable hidden object scenes, replayable mini-games, achievements, collectibles, morphing objects, and a super-fun hidden puzzle chapter.
Reflections of Life: Slipping Hope is a sight and sound extravaganza that also packs fantastic storyline and gameplay.
