You were left on the doorsteps of an orphanage when you were a baby with the only clue connecting you to your parents being a mysterious casino chip from the Azara Gambling House. Fast forwarded to now, you have arrived at the newly-renovated Azara Gambling House, determined to find out what happened to your real parents!
It has been a while since we got a HOPA game with a level of originality as impressive as this. Edge of Reality: Fatal Luck has you entering a competitive casino board game tournament in order to find your birth parents, but the stakes have never been higher when the difference between winning and losing literally means life or death. The general plot has reminisces us of Rite of Passage: Deck of Fates, but is slightly better executed in this game.
Edge of Reality: Fatal Luck has elements of the board game theme running through all aspects of the game. The environment is a sophisticated mix between the fantasy board game world and reality, while most of the tasks that need to be completed are somewhat connected to the overall theme. The puzzles are surprisingly smart and are being used strategically to progress the storyline. Although there is a great deal of puzzles involving cards and die, they are fundamentally varied from one another that they never get tedious or boring. Moreover, the hidden object scenes incorporate some neat interactions and zoom-in zones that they always remain entertaining.
This level of entertainment would not have been possible, of course, if not for the wonderful sights and sounds. The visuals in Edge of Reality: Fatal Luck are downright stunning and the surrealism of it all pulls us right in. The animations and the cutscenes are also gorgeous and expertly constructed, showcasing the insane talents of 4 Friends Games’ art crew. As for the music, the sounds, and the voice-overs, they are pleasant and suitable for the mood of the game.
We are happy to inform you that Edge of Reality: Fatal Luck is quite a long game. We completed the main game in just under five hours, and the bonus chapter in around 70 minutes. The Collector’s Edition contains all the standard extras; a strategy guide, wallpapers, concept art, soundtracks, screensavers, videos, replayable hidden object scenes, replayable mini-games, achievements, and collectibles.
