You are on a vacation in Greece with your best friend Christine when you both stumble upon a mysterious board game. Suddenly, you discover yourself in a parallel world with your friend missing. Can you beat the evil mastermind behind this bizarre world, save your friend, and survive this dangerous game?
As much as Labyrinths of the World might not be our favorite HOPA series, it seems to be able to come up with some creative plot every single time. This latest installment immerses the player in a Jumanji-like world, one that is both fascinating and terrifying. The fast-paced storyline is effectively delivered through plenty of actions and rather minimal dialogues. Still, we wish the game utilizes the board game theme a little more heavily and further distinguishes this game from the other exotic fantasy adventures.
Gameplay wise, Labyrinths of the World: A Dangerous Game hits all the right marks. The adventure part is predictable, but perfectly-made. At the same time, the hidden object scenes are multi-layered, innovative, and fun to play. The game heavily revolves around puzzles, big and small. Some of the more major ones come with the option to select between Easy and Hard mode, which is a thoughtful touch. However, it is a shame that even with the hard mode, none of the puzzles are particularly complex or challenging.
We are personally not big fans of the production in the Labyrinths of the World series. We usually thought the overly-saturated colors are overwhelming and the fuzzy quality of the graphics quite disappointing. Nonetheless, we enjoy the detailed artwork and interesting scene designs in this sequel. The more subtle soundtrack choices also turn out to suit the game well.
Labyrinths of the World: A Dangerous Game does not hold back when it comes to bonus features. Along with the 50-minute bonus chapter, the Collector’s Edition features a strategy guide, concept art, wallpapers, soundtracks, videos,, replayable hidden object scenes, replayable mini-games, achievements, collectibles, morphing objects, and a virtual room.
As much as we found Labyrinths of the World: A Dangerous Game entertaining, the game could have taken some more risks and creative choices.
