In this day and age, it is not common to find a decent non-builder Time Management release that does not belong to the ever-expanding Delicious universe. Happy Clinic has you following Holly’s internship as she joins various clinics and hospitals around the globe. Guide Holly through the fast-paced environment and help her achieve her dream of becoming a certified nurse!
Long-time fans of the Time Management genre will find it easy to get started with Happy Clinic. Each level begins with patients arriving at the clinic, some of which require diagnosis. You then drag each patient to a vacant bed and assign him or her with the appropriate doctor. During the treatment process. the doctors often ask you to bring them a variety of medical tools as well as assist them with taking the patients to other stations. One interesting feature regarding the gameplay is the “Med-O-Matic”, a highly advanced capsule that automatically treats the assigned patient, although it takes time to recharge after each use.
Happy Clinic spans across 105 levels, with 15 levels per location. Moreover, the game features seven more bubbleshotter-style bonus levels, one at the end of each location. Happy Clinic might not be the most complex game, but it is certainly a very hectic one. Each level is packed with tons of tasks, which in turn involves a crazy amount of clicking. At times, it feels like the level has been dragged on for too long and despite the constant switch in scenery, all of the levels start to feel similar after a while. Regardless of the plethora of upgrades available, most of them focus on efficiency and speed, not actually on keeping the game fresh. Still, Happy Clinic is a well-constructed game through and through and we had an amazing time playing it.
When compared to a recent hospital-themed release like the excellent Heart’s Medicine: Hospital Heat, Happy Clinic focuses more on the gameplay than the storyline. The only times that the story really advance in Happy Clinic are at the transition points between locations; so do not expect much character development or multi-layered plotlines in this one. Regardless, Happy Clinic impresses in the sights and sounds department. The bright and bold graphics, along with the upbeat music, amplify the lively mood of the game.
