Your agency, M16, has sent you to the Easter Island for a relaxing vacation as a reward for saving the world time and time again. What started out as a worry-free holiday turned out to be a dangerous and thrilling one when the Golem God has been unleashed from its volcanic prison. You need to search the worlds for all the other Seekers to help you defeat the ancient god!
The “save the world from an evil force” plot in Labyrinths of the World: Secrets of Easter Island is certainly not original, but at least the setting on the Easter Island has not been overdone yet. We also quite enjoyed the ancient alien slash science fiction theme that each Labyrinths of the World game seems to offer, and the focus around laser-eyed Moai and an alien legend makes this game all the more interesting.
As usual with games from Domini, the visuals in Secrets of Easter Island have a neon tinge to them. We know that this might not appeal to some players, but many appear to enjoy the brightly-colored scenes. Personally, we were not usually big fans of the graphics from Domini, but we must admit that this game looks gorgeous. Although the cutscenes can be a little bit fuzzy, the overall visual quality of the game is top-notch.
Given the positive things we have mentioned, it is a shame that the gameplay in Secrets of Easter Island does not exactly impress. The adventure part of the game is fairly linear, which makes it predictable and easy, especially for HOPA veterans. The hidden object scenes suffer from the same issue, as most items can be found easily. Luckily, the puzzles are rather challenging and some are surprisingly innovative.
Labyrinths of the World: Secrets of Easter Island is four-hours long, which is the standard length expected from the genre. The bonus chapter feels a little disconnected from the main storyline, it is decent nonetheless. The Collector’s Edition also comes with a strategy guide, wallpapers, concept art, soundtracks, videos, morphing objects, three collectible sets, a garden room, Match 3 games, replayable hidden objects, replayable puzzles, and achievements – a pretty hefty package.
