Adam Wolfe sets off on his second journey in The Devil You Know. A stranger showed up on Wolfe’s doorsteps and presented him with a mysterious box saying that it contains the only cure to his daughter’s illness. As Wolfe tried to unlock the box, it became evident that this is no ordinary medicine box, but it is the key to somewhat much more sinister.
Just a quick reminder before we begin, Adam Wolfe is an episodic adventure from Mad Head Games – this review only concerns the second chapter. The first episode of Adam Wolfe was one of the best casual games of the year and set up such high expectations for the remaining episodes. Adam Wolfe: Episode 2 – The Devil You Know has you follow Adam Wolfe on another thrilling paranormal investigation as the truth about the disappearance of Wolfe’s sister also seems to get closer. While we prefer the storyline in the first episode as it felt more original and unpredictable, we also thoroughly enjoyed the plot in this one. The Devil You Know develops its storyline through a variety of interactive means; from puzzles and in-game tasks to character’s dialogs and hidden object scenes – definitely a very smart and fun approach.
The Devil You Know also plays more like a traditional HOPA than the first episode did, which is certainly not a bad thing since it is also amazingly done. The game is still heavy on the puzzles, with a few hidden object scenes thrown in. The puzzles are logical and tied into the storyline extremely well, and the hidden object scenes are nothing short of impressive.
If you fell in love the sights and sounds in the first chapter, you are in for a treat with The Devil You Know. The game featured countless praiseworthy scenes, all of which are some of the very best we have seen in the casual games industry. We were also blown away by the epic background music and the believable voice-overs.
Unfortunately, Adam Wolfe: Episode 2 – The Devil You Know is a little short on the length. The whole episode took us just a shy of 65 minutes to complete, compared to almost 90 minutes of the first episode. Still, that didn’t lessen our excitement for the future episodes in the slightest.
