Dragons: Rise of Berk
May 21, 2014
Ludia
For iPhone & iPad

Dragons: Rise of Berk combines egg-hatching, collection-completing and city-building altogether. The gameplay reminds us of another game, also from Ludia, Jurassic Park Builder; only this time round, it is about dragons not dinosaurs.
Nonetheless, Dragons: Rise of Berk is a superbly attractive game. The developers did a terrific job presentation-wise; the graphics are sharp with top-notch quality, the animations of the dragons and the vikings are smooth and the 3D elements are well-implemented. The background music is lively, but not annoying and there is just the right amount of sound effects.
On the gameplay side, Dragons: Rise of Berk brings nothing new to the crowded genre; however, this does not mean that Dragons is not entertaining. In Dragons: Rise of Berk, there are three types of currencies; Fish, Wood and Runes. Fish, can be used to feed vikings, upgrade dragons and complete other tasks. Wood can be used to build and upgrade buildings and infrastructures. Runes is the rare one and can be purchased using real money, they can be used to speed up the process and buy other premium items. Moreover, we can use our dragon hero ‘Toothless’ to search for dragon eggs. These dragons can be used to fetch wood, fish and other resources required to unlock the game’s 25 islands.
We did not feel the need to purchase in-app items over our duration of play. Dragons: Rise of Berk started out pretty generous and fast-paced, although the game does get slower and slower after time. If you are patient enough, IAP should not come as a problem.
