For fans of hidden object games on mobile, G5 Entertainment is certainly a familiar name. Hidden City: Hidden Object Adventure (also known as Hidden City: Mystery of Shadows) was one of the studio’s first attempts at the free-to-play format (along with the widely popular The Secret Society) and catapulted the studio to the level of fame and acclaim it enjoys today. As a young detective, you need to investigate a smoke-covered city, where monsters, spirits, and everything in between roam free. Combine your investigative abilities with magic, witchcraft, and science to rid this mysterious city of evil entities.
As far as free-to-play games go, Hidden City: Hidden Object Adventure is an incredibly well-crafted one. From one eerie location to the next, you are tasked with multiple story-based quests at once to retrieve a multitude of items and solve the quests. In order to retrieve these objects, you have to jump from scene to scene and complete hidden object scenes. These hidden object scenes are not very interactive, but the variety of hidden object formats that the game offers is enough to keep the game fresh and fun.
Although you can unlock new scenes every one in a while, the game’s heavy focus on hidden object scenes can get repetitive and tedious quite quickly, especially because you usually need to replay each scene multiple times before getting the needed items. However, Hidden City’s complex storyline and fascinating characters often provide a nice change of pace. Compared to other games of its kind, Hidden City also includes a more complicated and expansive artifact collections mechanics. Apart from advancing the storyline, quest items can also be combined with other items in the same collection to form special items, which in turn can also be combined to form power-up artifacts.
Given that there are literally hundreds of item and artifact parts to keep track of, the game can get confusing at times. Nonetheless, this also allows the game to explore clever and fun social features such as helping your online friends assembling their artifacts by sending them extra item parts. Moreover, Hidden City also comes with a slew of other extra features to spice up the hidden object scenes. For example, helpful tools and boosters to increase your chance at receiving quest items from a scene, relaxing mini-games, monsters to defeat, as well as many more. Occasionally, the game also introduces seasonal events and rewards. These are guaranteed to be creative, exciting, and of course, super festive.
Another aspect of Hidden City that makes this quite a mobile staple for hidden object fans is its excellent production. The game’s old-school visual style is rather nostalgic and reminisces the classic hidden object titles. Each scene is different, yet the suspenseful and ominous atmosphere is constant throughout. The objective quality of the game’s sights and sounds is also top-notch, making this a stunning game noo matter which platform you play on.
What is also worth noting about Hidden City is that it can totally be enjoyed without having to spend real money. While purchases using real money can certainly give you advantages and shortcuts, if you have a little patience then Hidden City should come at no cost. Every hidden object scene requires energy to play, but energy is easy to find and there are more than enough of them available for a short gaming session. Coins and rubies are useful for purchasing item parts, but you can always find them in the hidden object scenes. Hidden City also holds regular sale events so if you want to purchase some coins and rubies, bargain prices are not difficult to come by.
Hidden City is a runaway hit for a reason. Its many interlocking parts and a brilliant production make it one of the best hidden object games for mobile today.
